Windsikher, Phoenix & Twin Sharks emerge triumphant at Phuket Yachting Festival

(The Phuket Yacht Club embedded Nautical Mystic, its roving correspondent, on board one of the yachts racing in the Yachting Festival and he filed the following report summing up the action on the water this week off of Ao Chalong)
The final day of the Phuket Yacht Club Yachting Festival delivered ideal championship racing, with a steady 240-degree breeze providing excellent conditions for two final windward-leeward races. After a week that had tested competitors with light airs, strong currents and dramatic wind shifts, the regatta concluded with classic Phuket racing conditions and an exciting finish across all three classes.
The race committee made full use of the breeze, completing two well-set windward-leeward courses that rewarded clean starts, consistent boat speed and smart tactical decisions.
Monohull A
WindSikher continued its remarkable consistency, adding two more race wins to complete an outstanding regatta. Alright again finished second in both races, while Aftershock rounded out the podium with another pair of third-place finishes.
Monohull B
The Monohull B fleet saw Phoenix continue its dominance with two more victories, securing the class with an impressive string of race wins throughout the week. Behind them, the battle between Nijinsky and Jing Jing remained close, with Nijinsky doing just enough on the final day to claim second overall on countback after both boats finished tied on corrected points.
Racing Multihull
The Racing Multihull fleet once again produced close racing, but Twin Sharks proved untouchable, taking both final races to cap off an exceptional performance. Behind them, Blue Noze enjoyed a strong final day with two second-place finishes, while No Fear crossed the line third in both races.

Premier Sailing Event
After eight races in the Monohull A and Racing Multihull classes, and seven races in Monohull B, three worthy champions emerged.
Monohull A
WindSikher – Sarab Jeet Singh
Alright – Craig Nicholls
Aftershock – Aftershock Syndicate
WindSikher's consistency was the key to victory, recording six race wins and never finishing lower than second throughout the regatta.
Monohull B
Phoenix – Niels Dgenkolw
Nijinsky – Andrew McDermott
Jing Jing – Steve Wassel
Phoenix dominated the class after recovering from a second place in the opening race to win every remaining race of the series.
Racing Multihull
Twin Sharks – John Newnham
No Fear – Dirk Weiblen
Blue Noze – George Eddings
Twin Sharks bounced back from third in the opening race to win every race thereafter, securing a convincing overall victory. No Fear and Blue Noze finished level on points, with No Fear taking second overall on countback.
A Week to Remember
The 2026 Phuket Yacht Club Yachting Festival showcased everything that makes racing in Phuket so special. Competitors experienced almost every condition imaginable, from frustrating postponements and drifting breezes to tactical island races with dramatic wind shifts, before finishing the regatta with perfect windward-leeward racing.
Throughout the week, the race committee showed patience and professionalism in making the most of the conditions, while competitors demonstrated impressive sportsmanship both on and off the water. Even on the days when racing wasn't possible, the friendly atmosphere ashore reminded everyone that the Phuket Yacht Club Yachting Festival is as much about camaraderie as it is competition.
Congratulations to all the winners, competitors, volunteers and race officials who made this year's festival another memorable success. As the prizes were presented and the fleet reflected on five enjoyable days of racing, attention already turned to next year's regatta, where new challenges and new champions await.
