JAI DEE REGATTA - A GREAT SUCCESS!

The Phuket Yacht Club hosted the Jai Dee Regatta on November 22-24.

The 7th annual Jai Dee was sponsored by Cholamark Boat Company and Doyle Sails China. Matt McGrath was the principal race officer.

DAY 1

Day one of racing brought cloudy skies and NE winds ranging from 12-16 knots. The multihulls managed to complete 3 races, with John Hearne's Boreas dropping out of race one with a broken boom. John Newnham's Twin Sharks edged out Dirk Weiblen's No Fear on those 3 races. The monohulls completed two races with Niels Degenkolw's Phoenix trading 1st places with Maksim Lisun's Uminoku. Stashevskiy's Lastochka folled with two 3rd places.  Uminoku won the 2nd race and then rushed off to Rolly Tasker's to get their mainsail repaired. Race courses were withing Chalong Bay.

DAY 2

Day two was had a brisk NE breeze at 12-18 knots and scattered light rain. Both classes managed to complete two races, again within the bay. Uminoku dropped out after winning the first race, again with mainsail problems. This left Phoenix in 2nd and Lastochka in 3rd place. The second race was Phoenix 1st, Lastochka 2nd. The multihulls ended up with Twin Sharks, Boreas and No Fear in 1,2,3 position for both races.

DAY 3

On the final day the fleet was sent around Koh Lon. The weather started off with a NE breeze of 12 knots and gradually died down but with all competitors finishing by 14:20. Boreas won the day by only 5 seconds on corrected time over Twing Sharks in multihulls. No Fear had a convincing line honors finish, but was moved to 3rd by handicap. Monohulls saw Uminoku first around the island and on handicap followed by Phoenix and Lastochka.

IN SUMMARY

Three days of breezy and overcast weather provided good conditions for completing 6 races in the multihull division and 5 races in the monohull division. With a race drop after 5 races, both divisions were able to drop their worst score.

In monohull division, this left Uminoku on top with 5 overall points in 1st place. Phoenix had 6 for 2nd and Lastochka with 11 in 3rd place.

In multihull division we saw Twin Sharks finish on top with 5 points, followed by No Fear at 12 and Boreas with 13.
